Zero Waste Shea Butter Body Soufflé
Jennifer JacquesI know what you're thinking - "Oh it's soufflé now, is it? ''Tis far from soufflé you were raised!"
I know, I know, but this really is a DIY body lotion with a difference. I've tried making whipped coconut oil body lotion before, and it was nice, but it just wasn't the texture I really wanted. The addition of the shea butter just elevates it to a level of loveliness that is quite simply beyond that of your garden variety whipped coconut body lotion.
This isn't the lightest of lotions, so to those of you who prefer a lighter body moisturizer in the morning - stick with jojoba oil, as it is quite similar to our skin's own sebum and therefore sinks in super fast. This would be a lovely night time body butter for you, so you can snuggle up wrapped in a cocoon of buttery deliciousness.
Without further ado, the ingredients are as follows:
- ⅓ cup shea butter
- ⅓ cup coconut oil
- ⅓ cup sweet almond oil, olive oil, or whatever oil you have to hand
- Essential oils of your choice (see note below in step 4)
Step 1:
Gently melt the shea butter and coconut oil together. I used a bain-marie, but you could do it in a saucepan on a very low heat, or in the microwave.
Step 2:
Remove from heat and add in tho sweet almond oil, olive oil, or whatever oil you are using.
Step 3:
Put it in the fridge to cool down. It's important to put it in the fridge as it stays liquid at room temperature - at least mine did when I used olive oil.
Step 4:
When it is no longer hot, but not yet solid, add the essential oils of your choice. If you are looking for some olive oil blends, check out this page. It it my essential oil blends bible! So many amazing ideas that I would never have thought of had I not stumbled across it one day.
Step 5:
When it has cooled down fully, transfer it to a mixing bowl and whip it with a whisk for about 3 minutes, or until it has reached the desired consistency. It should go from a buttery yellow to an airy, whipped white.
Step 6:
Transfer it into glass jars of your choice (I never store anything with essential oils in it in a plastic container). Stand back and admire your work.
Step 7:
Proceed to slather it all over yourself, big smug head optional.
